DR. SOUVIK ROY

PROFESSOR & ASSOCIATE DEAN

Prof (Dr.) Souvik Roy, Dean of the School of Law and Justice, extends a warm welcome to all aspiring legal professionals. “At the School of Law and Justice, we aim to nurture the next generation of legal minds by blending academic rigor with practical exposure. Our programs, infrastructure, and initiatives are designed to inspire students to achieve excellence in the field of law while contributing to societal development.” At our school, students are not just educated but empowered to make a meaningful difference in the world. We believe in shaping leaders who uphold the principles of justice and integrity, ensuring their impact extends beyond the courtroom.

Professor Roy is currently spearheading the Law School at Adamas University, Kolkata. Dr Roy completed his Ph.D. in substantive criminal law at KIIT University before completing his B.A. LL.B. from the University of Calcutta. He pursued an LL.M. from Queen Mary, University of London (U.K) with Merit, including Distinction in two disciplines. He was the recipient of the University of Calcutta Endowment Scholarship for his studies abroad. Prior to his current stint here, Souvik helmed the Law School of Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), Bengaluru. Dr. Roy, an educationist, has also worked as an Associate Professor with the Department of Law-UEM Kolkata, not before his prior stints with KIIT D.U., Bhubaneswar, and National Law University Odisha (NLUO). Prof. Roy also possesses industry experience in the corporate and litigation sectors, having worked in Kolkata and Mumbai for a considerable stint as a junior counsel and corporate lawyer, respectively. Subsequently, he worked as a foreign education counselor and CLAT mentor. He has participated in more than 30 national/international FDPs, seminars, and conferences as a participant, chair, resource person, etc. Souvik has not only authored books but also multiple publications to his name, which are indexed in UGC CARE, Scopus, and peer-reviewed journals of national and international repute.

  • Intra Moot Court Competition (November 2023): 20 teams participated to enhance advocacy skills, which AKS and Associates supported. Hon’ble Justice Bibek Chaudhari, High Court at Calcutta, judged the final.
  • 1st Intra Trial Advocacy Competition (24th-27th September 2024): In partnership with Ashirbad Law Firm, New Delhi, 20 teams participated, focusing on developing litigation and advocacy skills. It provided a platform for hands-on experience in trial procedures and courtroom strategies.
  • Locus Delicti -1ˢᵗ Crime Scene Investigation Competition (10th October 2023): Forensic competition simulating a crime scene investigation. 26 teams participated in this intra-event, held in association with Voices of Law Advocates and Solicitors Law Firm, focusing on forensic investigation.
  • SOLJ has published and indexed 20 Scopus research papers in the Academic Year which include Journals, Conferences, and book Chapters (2023-24)
  • SOLJ ADR society has started a student month blog where students are contributing articles on issues related to mediation and arbitration
  • World Intellectual Property Day (26 April 2023): An online session on “Intellectual Property in Metaverse” was conducted by Ms. Raka Roy, Partner at Galadari Advocates and Consultants, Dubai. The session, attended by 80 participants, covered the prospects of IP protection in the Metaverse.
  • Law Lecture Series Webinar (23rd May 2023): Mr. Arbaaz Hussain, Senior Associate at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., delivered a webinar on “A Journey from a Law Student to a Tier 1 Law Firm Counsel” organized by the School of Law and Justice, Adamas University.
  • Law Lecture Series Webinar (17th May 2023): Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura, delivered a webinar on “Indian Federalism: Critical Assessment,” organized by the School of Law and Justice, Adamas University.
Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) at the School of Law and Justice
In compliance with the Bar Council of India’s Circular (Ref No. BCI: D:2382/2024(LE-Circular-14) dated 22nd November 2024, the School of Law and Justice, Adamas University, has established the Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) to address and resolve student grievances in a fair and transparent manner. This initiative underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for its students.
The SGRC is designed to handle grievances related to academic, administrative, or other student-related matters within the framework of the Bar Council of India’s guidelines. The committee ensures timely resolution of grievances and upholds the rights and welfare of students, aligning with the principles of justice and accountability.
By instituting the SGRC, the School of Law and Justice aims to create a constructive platform where students feel empowered to voice their concerns and contribute to the continuous improvement of their educational experience.

The Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies (CPGLS) was established in the School of Law and Justice at Adamas University following the approval of the Governing Board during its 18th Meeting on 15th May 2020, based on the recommendations of the Academic Council. This milestone initiative reflects the institution’s dedication to advancing postgraduate legal education and research.
