Rajat Banerjee graduated from Scottish Church College, Kolkata. He did his M.A and M.Phil (with specialization in International Relations) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He completed his LLB from Osmania University, Hyderabad and his LL.M from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata with specialisation in International Law. He is currently (2016-2019) enrolled in the PhD program of WBNUJS. He qualified four National Eligibility Tests (conducted by the University Grants Commission) in Political Science, Law, Criminology and Human Rights and Duties.

He has about 12 years of work experience spanning across research, teaching, content writing, content editing and content management in various capacities. Since February 2016 till January 2019, he worked in the Centre for Regulatory Studies, Governance and Public Policy in the capacity of a Research Associate, WBNUJS, Kolkata. As a Research Associate in the Centre, which was established by the Government of West Bengal in 2015, he was entrusted with the task of questionnaire preparation, data analysis and interpretation, and report writing.

His primary research interests are in international law and politics, constitutional law and criminal law.
